It 1s a vory greet pleasure and an honor to be your guest this evening. Clinton le e sort of home to me. I w5.8 born in Lemar, lived in Barrisceville while I was learning to talk, was raised in Jecisson County, went to sehool in Independence and lived here in Clinton for a year when I was twenty-one years old. Henry County is just the sone a. Jackeon to have nearly es many friends here, both personal and political--80 you can aee how vory auch I enjoy being here. This Club is one of the outstanding Jefferson Cluba of the United States. All ita Presidents have been wonderful and able Democrats-- Mrs. Callavay, Mrs. Cary and now Miss Eatherine Spangler. I en particularly pleased that Miss Spangler is the President tonight. She and my sister are stauneh Tastern Star friends and Miss Spangler was one of the ablest Crand Natrons Miesouri ever hed. Clinton is also to be complimented on ita Whitaker and bis Henry County Demoerat make a Democratie combination that the party den tie to. Then there is Miss Ella Pearl. Clinton would not be Clinton vithout Niss Ella Pearl Smith and the Clinton Eye--and Homor Johnson. sa Moore, your postaaster, and I fought in the war togethor, and Jnâge Sperry I am particularly fond of. But I miss one of my good friends and one of Missouri's grand old men, Judge c. C. Diekinson. He presided and made * apeech at the last meeting I attended here in 1934. He was one of Missouri's greatest nembers of Congress and his place in the hearts of hie friends, both here and in Tashington, will never be filled. Clinton doern't seera the aane without him.
