IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OCTOBER 8, 1947
The Prosident has sent the following letter to the Honorable
Douglas W. McGregor, accepting his resignation as The Assistant to the
Attorney General:
"october 7, 1947
Dear Mr. McGrogor:
Because of the pressing nature of the reason cited
in your letter of October sixth I accept, effective at
the close of business today, your resignation as The
Assistant to the Attorney General.
I have only words of highest commendation for your
work during an all too brief tenure of service. It is
the country's misfortune that your return to private life
at this time deprives us of the fine abilities and all
around efficiency which have been reflected throughout
all the time you have been associated with the Department
of Justice.

Following is the toxt of Mr. McGregor's letter to the
President:
"October 6, 1947
My dear Mr. President:
Illness in my immediate family necessitates my re-
turn to Texas on October seventh of this year, and I,
therefore, tender my resignation as The Assistant to the
Attorney General effective at the close of business
October 7, 1947.
It is with deep rogret that I mako this move and with
the feeling of loss in departing from my associates hore in
Washington. While I shall not be hore on the front I shall
always be laboring for the advancement of our common inter-
est in the Democratic Party.
