IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 16, 1948
The President has sent the following letter to Mr. Ralph .
Bard, accepting his resignation as Deputy United States Representative
on the United Nations Commission for Conventional Armaments:
January 15, 1948
My dear Mr. Bard:
In accordance with your request of December thir-
tieth, I accept, with regret, your resignation as Deputy
United Statos Representative on the Commission for Conven-
tional Armaments.
I am well aware of the complex problems which
confronted the Commission during your tenure of office, and
I want you to know that I appreciato the faithful service
which you have rendered in this and other positions of great
responsibility in our Government. I am glad to know that you
stand ready to assist the United States Mission to the United
Nations in a consultative capacity.

Following is the text of Mr. . Bard's letter to the President:
December 30, 1947
Dear Mr. President:
For the past eight months I have been serving
under your appointment as Deputy United States Repre-
sentative to the Commission for Conventional Armaments
of the United Nations.
Satisfactory arrangements have been worked out
with Senator Austin and the State Department whereby my
services will no longer be required in this capacity,
with a consequent saving to the Government, and I am,
therefore, submitting my resignation herewith, to take
effect, subject to your approval, as of January 1, 1948.
I have enjoyed this work and I have suggested
that I shall be glad to continuo in a consultative capac-
ity if desired.
