1731 338 IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 22, 1948 The President has sent the following letter to the Honorable James E. Wells, Jr., accepting his resignation as Cooperative Bank Commissioner, Farm Credit Administration: "Dear Mr. Wells: I regret very much that, because of your personal plans, you find it necessary to submit your resignation as Cooperative Bank Commissioner. Inasmuch as I can under- stand the circumstances leading to this decision, I accept your resignation as of the close of business July 31, 1948. I know that you have made truly worthwhile con- tributions to the field of agricultural credit and to ad- vancing the cause of farmers' cooperatives. Believing as I do in this movement, I am sure that these organizations realize fully the efforts you have made in their behalf. I want to thank you for the service that you have rendered, and I wish you great success in your new work. Very sincerely yours, (Sgd) HARRY S. TRUMAN" The text of Mr. Wells' letter to the President is as follows: "July 19, 1948 NARA "Dear Mr. President: Because of personal plans which require my leaving Government service, I find it necessary to tender my resignation as Cooperative Bank Commissioner in the Farm Credit Administration to become effective August 1, 1948. I have enjoyed my many years of service in the field of agricultural credit, during all of which I have made sincere efforts to advance the concept of farmers working through their own cooperativo organizations. I hope that those efforts have resulted in some worthwhile contributions toward this objective. It has indeed been a pleasure to have served under you during the past year. Respectfully yours, (Sgd) JAMES E. WELLS, JR. 11
