18 Opening sequence JOHNSON : Ambassador Lodge, I want you to know right off that I am not going to lose Vietnam. I am not going to see all of Southeast Asia go the way of China under my Presidency. But President + Kennedy had issued orders for a withdrawal of 1,000 of our advisers from Vietnam by December 31, and he'd set a goal of withdrawal of all U.S. personnel by 1965.
