DESALTING OF WATER &. What is the status of the internationn) program for using nuclesr energy to desalt water? A. The U. 3. end many other countries are extremely interested in the possibility of developing relichle and economic methods of converting salt unter to fresh vater. Resesrch in this field has been under wey for many yeara. The use of low cost nuclear energy for this purpose appesrs to be very pronising. Over the past year tre have exchanged some information on desalting unter with several countrico, and with international orgenizations, principally through penel meetings sponsored by the International Atomic Enorgy Agancy. The next panel meeting will be held in late April, and our technical experts will participate. We are esger to pool our experience and knowledge with other countries in this field. The IAEA serves as a focal point for this cooperation.
