DESALTING OF WATER
&.
What is the status of the internationn) program for using nuclesr
energy to desalt water?
A. The U. 3. end many other countries are extremely interested in the
possibility of developing relichle and economic methods of converting
salt unter to fresh vater. Resesrch in this field has been under wey
for many yeara. The use of low cost nuclear energy for this purpose
appesrs to be very pronising.
Over the past year tre have exchanged some information on desalting
unter with several countrico, and with international orgenizations,
principally through penel meetings sponsored by the International
Atomic Enorgy Agancy. The next panel meeting will be held in late
April, and our technical experts will participate.
We are esger to pool our experience and knowledge with other countries
in this field. The IAEA serves as a focal point for this cooperation.
