Dr. Garcia - Page 2 17 January 1949 of the criticism, and we all know that none of them had anything to do with it. The Good Neighbor Commission of the State of Texas is working constantly to improve better relations between the Anglos and the Latins, which really means people of Mexican extraction, and our work of some years past and also of the future will be greatly handicapped unless this is satisfactorily handled, and it is my thought that she has an opportunity to contribute one of the finest acts toward this better onderstanding -- and she is the only one who can do it. If she will convey to me her willingness, I will complete all of the things that I have said in this letter. I will await your reply. I assure you that I appreciate your continued interest and your willingness to do everything that you can , because I think that you also will have an oppor- tunity to do much for this understanding and develop a good record that will live longer than you will, if you can get this done. My sincere best to you. Sincerely, R.E. Smith RES sr [2 of 2]
