    "ocrText": "COPY\nMy dom Frionds\nI an glad to lonour of your interest in the facts\nconcorning the returial of an Amorican soldior.\nMy part in this matter was small, but I lonow that\nyou would to havo the facts concerning ite\nOn January 11 at 8:49 I recoived a vire from\nthe President of the GI Forma at Corpus Christi sayings \"In direct\nconversation, the funeral home sanager, T. W Kermedy, stated that\nha would not arzange for funcral services and use of his facilities\nbocause, ho said, tother whito people object to use of the funeral\nhome by peoplo of liexiean origin'. II\nUpon receipt of this vire, I telephoned the Congrossman\nfrom the District and anleed hin to ascortain the facto for ne if it\nwas possible to do so. Ho assued no ho would place a call to cortain\npeoplo in Three Rivers and give no a report. At noon that day I\ndiscussed this with some of my colleagues in Congress and with sona\nofficiala in the Department of the Anny chazged with the responsibility\nof reburial for tiaz II veterans. At 5:30 that afternoon, I chociced\nagain with the Congressman and found that ho had been unable to ro-\nceive a report from Thace Rivers.\nI then placed a long distence telephone enll to Tencas\nand talieed to taro diainterested, objectivo persons who were familier\nwith the facts. They told ne (1) that the newspapers in hnd\nalready carried em Associated Pross story saying, e A funeral home\nat Three Rávers, has refused to allou the body of a\nsoldier in action to enter* the homa because tho whitos won't\nlice it. The soldiex is Felix Longoria, in the\nin 1945. The body is en route hores. T. Kermody, monager of the\nRice Funcral Home told a Corpus Christi reported lionday\nby telophone that tue just neves malco a practice of letting then\n(Latin Apericans) use the chapel, and wro don't want to stert now.
