COPY Memo for Files Cont'd. Page 2 Res Folix Longoria February 25, 1949 to pasa along the story as I had told it to the Minister of State. Mro Reveley at that time and that he was going to talk to Ambassador Thurston in City and give him the full story in order that he might take some action to see that the story was not played up too mach in the Mexcionn presa because the American representatives were on their way to Mexico city to begin negotiations on the Worloers Agreement. Mr. Reveley pointed out that in the past fow years, including last year, that the agreement in which the United States signed with Meocico concerning worlcers entering the United States during certair, periods of the year to harvest erops, stc., excluded Texas because of incidents which had arison regarding the treatment of Mexcican labor in the State. lit. Reveley told me that he thought that the incident might have a disasterous affect on their negotiations unless they were able to present the solution in such a way as to counteract the incident itself. Mr. Reveley explained that the people in Texas had bitterly complained, and justifiably so, about the United States signing an agreement with a foreign country which agreement discriminated against one of our states (nanely, Texas), and that the State Department was doing everything in its power to work out a naw agreement whereby Texan would be included in the treaty as all other states. From that day on I taliced almost daily to lir. Reveley about the matter. He was extromely interested comming all the details. when at one time it appeared that the funeral might be hald at Three Rivers 03 Fort Sam Houston, Mir. Reveley said "Although the State Department could take no official action since all participants in the matter were American citizens, yot they were deeply interested in the matter and he hoped that wo would do everything possible to 806 that the funeral WBLS held at the Arlington Cemetery and that 1t be made into as bd.g an occession as possible, with as many notables present as possible. He stated that his only interest again was in seeing that the burial itself was of such moment that it would completely overcome the incident itself in the minds of the Mexican Government." At one time when I told lir. Reveley that Felix Longoria world probably be buried along with 19 other doad, Reveley asiced that we hold a separate funeral for Felix Longoria and that he not be buried with the other 19. I leept Mr. Revoley informed generally of the arrangements concerning the body and the various dates aet for the funcral. He continued to call ne about the matter, emphasizing the importance that it might have, all be it unoficially, on our negotiations and relations [5 of 9]
