JAN 15 Pampa, Texa: S January 13, 1949 The Honorable Lyndon B. Johnson, United States Senate, Washington, D.C., Dear Sir;- Please accept my sincere thanks and congratulations for your action in recommending that the Mexican who was refused funeral service in South Texas be buried in Arlington. It seems to me that if a man is good enough to be dressed in OD and sent to foreign soil to give his life he is good enough be buried anywhere in the country. I hope it will be possible for his parents and family to be present at the Arlington Cemetary services. I'11 tell you right frankly that I am no NEW DEALER and I think we are headed straight for bankruptcy if we take on all the continued New Deal schemes of bailing out public money to every so and so all over the globe. It seems we must rehabilitate all and sundry all over the world, but a disabled veteran has to battle for months or years to get a disability claim allowed, and not then without the assistance of one of the Veterans organizations. "Good old Joe" wrapped F.D. R. around his finger at Teheran and Yalta and we're paying the bill now.How long, I ask you can we continue to spend two hundred thousand dollars a day because the Soviets made a monkey of us with their secret deals. If the results of the war had been reversed, if we had lost, how many food laden ships would be headed WEST across the Atlantic instead of EAST ? How many Kraut flyers would risk their necks to bring us coal while we sat on our hands in our coal fields ? Now don't spring that old worn out gag, "Would you let them starve?" I've known lots of Germans in different parts of the country and I never knew one to starve yet. They have sence enough to not destroy their crops. What about the expensive mess we've made of the potato situation? I'd like to hear some thing about a "Saving Program" for the American people instead of the usually advertised "Spending Program". Thanks again for your action in the Mexican case, Box 167,Route 2 Sincerely yours, Pabt.co [2 of 2]
