Local Newsmen To Testify
Tomorrow; 35 To Be Called

THREE RIVERS-A five-man committee from the Texas
House of Representatives this morning opened an investiga-
tion of the nationwide notoriety the town of Three Rivers
recently received regarding the reburial of Felix Longoria,
Three Rivers war veteran.
T. W. Kennedy, manager of Rice Funeral Home, was the
first witness called. The committee was called to order at
9:30 o'clock.
Rep. Cecil Storey, of Longview, chairman of the com-
mittee, indicated that approximately 35 witnesses may be
called in the investigation, which will continue at least
through Friday.
Among witnesses to be called
mill be all members of the Longroria
fámily, De. dector Garcia, Corpus
Christi; M. Rice, former owner of
Rice Funeral Home; Mayor J. K.
Montgomery, mayor of Three Riv-
ers; F. M. Ramsey, president of
the Three Rivers Chamber of Com-
merce; Live Oak County Sheriff
Albert Smith; R. H. Farley, sec-
retary of the Bexar County Cen-
tral Council of the American Leg-
ion, San Antonio; Thomas S. Suth-
erland, executive secretary of the
Good Neighbor Commission, Aus-
tin; Robert M. Jackson, editor, Bob
McCracken, managing editor, and
Geòrge Groh, reporter, of the Cor-
pus Christi Caller-Times.
All members of the committee
were present when the investiga-
tion started. Committeemen beside
Storey are Rep. Tom Cheatham of
Cuero, Rep. James Windham of
Livingston, Rep. Frank Oltorf of
Marlin and Rep. Byron Tinsley of
Greenville.
Jackson, McCracken, Groh and
Dr. Garcia were to be called be-
fore the committee at 9:30 o'clock
Friday morning. Sutherland is
scheduled to be present at 2 o'clock
Friday afternoon.
The investigation is being held
in Rotary Hall. About 25 people
were present as the inquiry open-
ed
The committee invoked the rule
providing that witnesses not testify-
ing must remain outside the build-
ing.
Sutherland walked into the
building a few minutes after the
investigation started.
M. A. Childers of San Antonio
is legal counsel for Kennedy
E. E. Shirar has been appointed
interpreter.
