This article appeared in the Collor-Tiner on January 12, 1949: LONGORIA WILL BE BURIED IN ARLINGTON Felix Longerio, killed in the Philippines in World War II, will be buried in Arlington Nationn] Cemetery in Wahington, D.C. Rice Funeral Home, in Longoria's hometown of Three Rivers, had refused use of its chepel for a re-burial service on ra- cial grounds. Rice leter withdrew its refussl but Mrs. Bestrice Longorie, the veteran's wife, announced last night thet she had accepted an offer of Arlington fucilities. The offer, which was telegromed by den. Lyndon Johnson, was accepted lost night at a protest meeting hold by the Amer- loan GI Forum in Gohool. Sen. Johnson's telegram read in part: "I desply regret that the projudices or som individuals extend even beyond this life. I have made arrongements to heve Felix Longorio buried with full military honora in Arlington, where the honored war deud reat." Telegramed apologies from Gov. Besuford Jester, Rep. John E. Lyle and Mayor J.K. Montgomery, or Three Rivers, also were rend et the meeting, Montgomery, who termed the incidant "a mistake, m offered use or nis own home for the service if necessary. The Forum took a collection at the meeting to pay Mrs. Longoria's expenses to Tashington for the service. [6 of 31]
