Dear Farris:
Here is a copy of a letter I have written your young
friend James Spiro about our white Collie dog Blanco.
It is true we are in a great quandry about what to do
with Blanco. He is a fine, beautiful, highly bred
dog. but he is not a "romp and play" dog -- prob-
ably because he is so highly bred. He came to us
at a very young age and we found him to be shy and
nervous. Some of that has been overcome during
his years of security and familiarity within the White
House grounds, but I seriously wonder If Blanco would
be the companion you should expect a Collie to be
for a boy.
We haven't yet decided what to do. Can you tell me
does the President's house at Jacksonville University
have a fenced yard? Blanco hasn't the slightest notion
of the danger involved in crossing a street.
With very best wishes,
Sincerely.
