Jan HUBERT E. STODDARD SEYMOUR, CONNECTICUT 2432 Baywood Drive, West DEC 1988 Dunedin, Florida. President Lyndon B. Johnson The White House Washington, D. C. Honored Sir, We feel that James Hoffa is creating a monopoly for the purpose of making the office of the President of The United States impotent. He is spending millions of dollars right now to increase rapidly the number of members in the Teamster's Union. Why? He is driving to get a universal contract between his members and their employers. Again why? Hoffa is for Hoffa and Hoffa only, he doesn't operate for love. When the time is ripe, and he is a keen judge of economic and political situations, he will call a universal strike and the United States will be paralysed. Then comes the test of power, Hoffa vs. Johnson. The pre- sident can call out troops, there will be violence and bloodshed. A great hue and cry will go up from the Team- ster millions-" Johnson is a Butcheri". Terribly serious for the President, possibly catastrophic for the role of The United States as world leader and its economy. Can't something be done, and immediately, to head this off? The role of the Teamster's Union is that of render- ing a service to the people of The United States. A bank renders a service to the people of The United States. If a bank wishes to add the services of another bank to those it now renders that bank must get approval from the proper government agencies. If it is proven that a monopoly may created thereby, permission is not granted. The same is true regarding railroads and all industry. Why is Hoffa per- mitted to openly create a monopoly for the ulimate pur- pose of challenging the power of The President of The United States? Why should he be allowed to hold in his hand the whip which can make a national election go Hoffa's way-or else? I hope that action may be taken at once to halt this procedure before it is too late. Respectfully yours December 12,1963
