THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
June 8, 1973
Dear Mr. Prime Minister:
I have received your letter of May 29 inform-
ing me of Canada's decision to withdraw from
the International Commission of Control and
Supervision. The active, constructive role
which Canada has played in the ICCS has been
a most valuable contribution to restoring peace
in Vietnam, and it is in the light of that role
that I particularly regret your government's
decision not to continue its participation.
I have noted your willingness to extend Canada's
participation until July 31. I believe this would
be useful in assuring continued international
supervision while we attempt to work out appro-
priate alternative arrangements.
