CANADIAN EMBASSY AMBASSADE DU CANADA 1746 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, D. C. 20036 June 2, 1972. Dear Mr. Sonnenfeldt, I have just been asked to arrange for the transmission to the President of a message from Prime Minister Trudeau about the recently concluded visit to the Soviet Union. I understand that the original text of the letter is now on its way but I should be very grateful if you could have the following message from the Prime Minister brought to the President's attention: = Please accept this note of welcome on your return to North America following your important and successful trip. You will understand, I am sure, that Canada's geographic location between the United States and the Soviet Union gives Canadians special reason to be very pleased with the results of your visit to Moscow this past week. " The Strategic Arms Limitations Agreement, and the common ground found in a number of other strategic areas, are heartwarming evidence that a new climate of confidence has been introduced into international relations. For this, all mankind will be grateful. = I wish to offer you my congratulations on these accomplishments and, on behalf of Canadians, sincere thanks for these contributions towards a peaceful world. P. E. Trudeau." With best wishes, Yours sincerely, M. Cadieux, Ambassador. Mr. Helmut Sonnenfeldt, National Security Affairs, Room 368, Old Executive Office Building, WASHINGTON, D. C.
