Dear President Nixon,
Your dramatic announcement of last
evening was received here with enthusiasm and
pleasure. I should like to offer you my sincere
congratulations on this historic initiative.
Your journey for peace will be accompanied
by the hopes and good wishes of all Canadians.
A new era in international relations is beginning,
and I have no doubt that ordinary human beings
everywhere will be the beneficiaries. Your
contribution in stepping across the threshold
deserves -- and will receive -- widespread
appreciation.
With every good wish,
Yours sincerely,
P. E. Trudeau
