Secretary Rogers
April 14, 5:25 p. m.
HAK said he had talked to Kay Graham about the two statements
appearing in Newsweek. She didn't know anything but was supposed
to call HAK back. The first statement was untrue and besides the
two statements were not consistent. On the second statement, she
knows from her ank own experience, and she confirmed that, that
it was totally XM contrary.
Rogers said he was going to make a speech tomorrow on ( ???)
He said he would make a remark about how the press has written
up the iddfex differences between State and the WH. Rogers said
"When he was Attorney General it was suggested by the press that
he was working for J. Edgar Hoover and now it is suggested that
he is working for HAK. He is pretty happy to share the blame
with everybody1 He wanted to know if HAK objected to this.
HAK said no.
Rogers said if we don't take them seriously and keep it on a
han humerous base, it would be better for all.
HAK said he hadn't had a chance to talk to the President about the
Cleveland thing but thought it was a good idea anyway.
