Prof. Kistiakovsky
Kis. stated that the had talked to Piori and Killian and things
that Piori needs budging a bit more. He told Piori that he
would be in a better position to get funds for the NSF if he
took the appointment. He thought what really troubled Piori
was that if his appointment is made in the normal way, the
President may go back on his view re the freedom
of science. Alot of people will think he did something behind
Franks back and would be handicapped.
HAK said the President was willing to have a reception for the
whole Academy honoring Piori on Wednesday but had to know
what his decision was before going ahead with all the plans.
KIST. thought that would be a good idea. HAK said he would
call Piori right away.
They made an appointment for Kist to see HAK at 10:30 on
Monday. Kist. will call the office first.
