Telecon Mitchell 12/1/69 3:22 p. m. K said we are having a meeting with the P about 5:00. K said we are faced with a power play from State to ram their permanent cease-fire through. K said if you come over half an hour earlier I can show you a paper. M said he would try, but he has several appointments. K said the P asked him to make sure M would come out against it. M asked if this was in connection with the Christmas holiday. K said yes, and they wanted to come with a permanent cease-fire. K said Sir Robert Thompson is here, and K's trying to set up a meeting between M and him. K said he says this would be disastrous. K said he is optimistic, more SO than K would have been. M said both Laird and Rogers are leaving for NATO. K said there's something much too com- plicated to explain. K said it's really a fast shuffle. K said he thinks the problem is totally out of control. K said he doesn't want to explain it over the telephone; if M can come about a half-hour early, he can.
