D: There have been comments that we can't withdraw
all our combat troops before the end of the year. Is Vietnamization
failing?
K: No, we're relaxed. We never said we'd withdraw before
the end of the year.
D: I know, but having him (?) say this, there is some
feeling Vietnamization isn't working on schedule?
K: No, we don't feel that at all.
D: Is Saigon trying to dictate withdrawal policy?
K: They have an interest, but there's no disagreement
between us. We're not worried.
D: Is this a chance for the doves to say 'we told you so?

K: They would be as ill-advised on this as they have been
before. But I'm not going to tell them what to say.

K: Nothing has changed. We're relaxed. We're on course,
that's all.
D: This is not an embarrassment?
K: No.
D: Were you surprised?
K: Well, he doesn't clear his statements with us.
D: Would your life be easier if he didn't make comments

K: Nancy I like you very much, but you can't make me
make statements like this.
D: I like you too, but we're both at work, not at a dinner party.
