TELCON Mr. T. Anthony K. Elliott (British Embassy) Mr. Kissinger 5:30 P.M., 1-10-70 K said I was calling the Ambassador on a personal basis on behalf of the President. I don't want to throw lots of machinery in motion. The President may call the Prime Minister tomorrow about Nigeria. We have no specific proposal. He just wants to discuss the situation. E asked if he would be calling at any particular time. K said we have not set a time. The President wants to discuss the situation and what steps could be taken by both governments either separately or together. E asked again if K could give him any idea of the time. K said I am not 100% sure that he will do it. I would think it would be your afternoon between 4 and 10. It would be a personal communication. K said you should not discuss it with anyone but the Prime Minister. Note: President Nixon called the British Prime Minister at approximately 6:15 P.M. EST. mlh Reproduced at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library DECLASSIFIED This document has been reviewed pursuant to Executive Order 13526 and has been determined to be declassified.
