Telecon Secretary Rogers 1/14/70 11:03 a. m. R: Not al all ---and - he's let us take everything we wanted to out of the Vietnam hearings. K: Well, we won't do anything on the Brandt visit that you are not comfortable with. I hate to go back to him, but if there's no other way to do it, we are prepared to do it. R: It would be easiest for me to change my dates. I'11 let you know. Secretary Rogers 1/14/70 1:05 p. .m. R: I've checked and this Southeast Asia thing is pretty firm. How did it get off the track? K: I don't know. It was handled by the wrong procedure. The Germans gàve us some dates; these were checked against the P's calendar. I don't know how it happened. The Germans came in with 6 - 11 as the only possible dates on Brandt's calendar. And 7 and 8 were the only possible ones on the P's calendar. R: We ought to be on these things there's nothing secret about them. K: No, I've given instructions this morning that from now on your calendar will always be checked concurrently with the P's. R: Rush didn't know either. K: He's got to have known. There was no intentional desire to keep anyone out of it. It was something that slipped by as a seheduling snafu. R: Let's check it out. I have only talked with Marshall Green about SEATO. K: The reason I suggested putting off your departure if possible is that that's the easiest thing to do. But it's not the only thing to do. If it's not possible we will figure out a way of doing it. It's not an issue; we will Reproduced at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library DECLASSIFIED This document has been reviewed pursuant to Executive Order 13526 and has been determined to be declassified.
