L: I think things worked out very well.
K: The President said you were doing a great job.
L: The AP, UP and everyone else is handling this well. It's great to get the
jump on them and name(?) ) the press. I left a ? ? ? ? hanging in there.
K: On these other base areas. He is willing to go ahead when Abrams is ready.
L: One is going tonight.
K: Dont announce them to the press but when questions are reaised tell them
about them in context of your press conference and his speech.
L: Keep the WH out of it.
K: We won't say anything.
L: We don't have to make friends with the press. The people over there do.
It's going along all right. I will get with the Joint Chiefs late today or early
tomorrow XXXXIXXX morning.
K: How did the questioning go?
L: All right.
K: What's your sense of the Congressional mood?
L: We will win this thing in the House on Wed. They will insist that we cannot
use ground troopsx in Laos. But not Cambodia. Are those meetings on tomorrow?
K: He wants you and Wheeler to give a 10 min. brief to start.
L: Breakfast and 5:00?
K: He wants you only at the Armed Services Committees.
L: Make sure because I changed plans. Bill called me to & say his had to be at the
other.
K: The President thinks you should be at the Armed Services and Bill at the
Foreign Affairs.
L: Let me know because H was supposed to be in Qa. for Sen. Russell.
