TELECON Mr. Kissinger/The President 10:46 p. m. , May 8, 1970 K: I have just been taking a poll with my staff. They are absolutely enthusiastic. I thought it was extremely effective. I don't think there is much you can do to impress the demonstrators, but their parents who were watching may be able to influence them. P: You noticed we didn't give them a damn inch. I thought it was good to make a prediction on arms control; and that was a hard hint on the Israeli business. K: And you also said you took the responsibility. P: They know Rogers was against it; I thought I gave Hickle a kick in the ass. K: I thought X at this emotional moment, it was good to come on low-key. P: How about your staff? K: They liked it because you seemed very cool and you didn't back away from your policy. P: We shouldn't back away. It is working. I didn't constrict our people. I had it all worked out in my mind. How did you like my reaction to Nancy Dickerson. K: I thought overall the impact was very strong and very decisive. P: They hate us, the country, themselves, their wives, everything they do -- these liberals. They are a lost generation. They have no reason to live any more. K: They will be the first to be destroyed by this. You were very clear you would continue this policy. I thought the questions were not as hostile as I thought they would be. They were tough. P: I have no use for them. I hate these bastards. K: You have them now. lds
