R: Can you tell me on any basis whether the new amentiment
offered on the Senate floor meets the White House objectives?
K: I don't know what it is to tell you the truth.
R: Well, let me read it from the top. [Rather read it. ] It
narrowed it down to Cambodia rather than the other wording having to do
with the wider war.
K: I would rather not comment on something I haven t had a
chance to study.
R: What I'm getting at is was it worked out in a White House
compromise.
K: The X reliable information you can get on this from Bryce
Harlow. I can only comment on these things from a foreign policy point
of view.
R: Well, he was out today.
K: He is back.
R: Then I11 call him. I appreciate your taking the call. We
had a deadline
K: No, I know what you're up against.
