TELCON
Governor Reagan
Mr. Kissinger
4:30 pm - 5-30-70
K:
How are you Governor?
R:
Fine, how are you.
K :
I just wanted to check in with you to tell you how
much we appreciated all the support you have been
giving us and to tell you the operations in Cambodia
are going well.
R:
Like you, I am praying for rain. I have been excited
to read about the possibility that we have captured
their headquarters.
K :
We have a lot of their communication facilities.
There have been many periods in the last three weeks
when their headquarters has been off the air completely
for several days at a time. No doubt we have dis-
rupted their communication. The figures are large.
Well over 40,000 mortar rounds. Altogether, mortars
and rockets, we have 70,000. We think we have up to
70% of their ammunition supply. 75% of their rice
supply. On military grounds, everything has been
an enormous success. In South Vietnam, the scale of
operation has been falling. Have you seen in the paper
today - that one of the Presidents at Berkeley wrote
a letter to Thailand Government asking them to get
the murderous Americans out of there?
R:
Yes, and I was very happy to see the Thai answer. The
faculty has just brainwashed our kids. They have been
given a view but I believe some of them are now beginning
to find out that there is another side. How did we
ever let this happen without waking up to it?
K:
Well, that is a long story. I have been seeing a lot
of students the last few weeks. When I see students
alone, I am doing well but when I see faculty, it turns
into a nightmare. We had quite a reception in Tennessee-
They were showing Viet Cong flags to the President
and calling him dirty names and yet the audience of
about 75,000 just shouted them down.
R:
I know we are right and we are on the right side, and
as far as the people are concerned also.
