Telecon Jerry Warren 5/30/70 ca. 12:00 page 2 June 30 American forces will be out. There will be no new announcement. W: There will be questions on a speed-up of withdrawals. K : Just turn these all away. Say the President's decision stands. W: Okay. Why isn't Rogers represented? K : This is only a military meeting and he's in NATO. He's been fully briefed on this meeting and it!s still a military briefing. No new decisions will be made. W: The tawo military gentlement from Washington and the man from Defense and the man from the rice paddies--is that all? K: No, the one from Hawaii will be here too. And Wheeler and Moorer. But underline that it's still a military briefing-- no decisions will be made. There will be no dramatic announce- ment. For your information, we are going to announce tomorrow that the President will make a statement on Wednesday. W: Do you know the time yet for the meeting tomorrow? K : 2:00 in the President's office. W: Shall I wait until tomorrow to announce the time? K : Why not announee it? W: Okay, I'll do it. K : What we don't want is endless speculation before the President speaks. W: We'll say he had a full military briefing--he was very encouraged and he will address the nation. They're going to say why the first part of June when he had said it would be towand the end? K : Because he wants to give a report on what he heard from Abrams. W : Okay. I'll report to you about how it goes. K: Yes, do that.
