Telecon Secretary Laird 6/5/70 11:02 a. m. K: I just talked with the President about the B-1. He says, of course, go ahead. I mentioned your concern about it but he said go ahead. He just wants to make sure Murphy gets cut in. L: Yes, we've got an arrangement with his staff. K: And Ehrlichman suggested Bellman should be told. Is that Congressman Bellman? L: No I think a Senator. K: It couldn't be --he - said it's in his district. I know a Senator Bellman, but where is he from? L: Oklahoma. K: And he shouldn't care, should he? L: I'll check it out. K: I'll get Ehrlichman to call you. You going to announce it at 4:00? L: No, we will let Murphy announce it at 4:00 and then follow his announcement. We won't go till 5:00. K: Oh that's the way you're going to do it. Very good. The President wants maximum air effort in Cambodia this month while we have no restriction. He wants to hit troops wherever they move and he wants a report every day on that. L: Abe is doing a good job on that. On the tactical air situation on messages, I don't think we should broadcast all over State and the embassyes that Abe has/little latitude int this regard. Itd like to keep it between Abe, the Joint Chiefs and myself. K: Sure, as long as you get it done. L: It will get done. But in messages cleared through State and the ambassadors, I hope we're careful in spelling it out about interdiction support.
