TELECON
The President/Mr. Kissinger
7:45 p. m., June 15, 1970
K:
Mr. President
P: Henry
K:
Yes
P:
How did your, what's the group?
K: WSAG
P: Do you think they got the message? They said they were trying SO
I just hope they got it. No doubt about what we were going to do --
we were going to take gambles and risks.
K: It was very useful, your speaking to them. You couldn't have made
it more plain.
P: Maybe they are going to come up with some things. I am going to
watch it every 24 hours.
K: More urgency. Also the fact that they heard from you directly, your
attitude towards (what) you think, that is terribly important.
P:
What do you have in mind about the Lon No1 government? Not support
government or not
K:
I don't think your position is that we tie ourselves to the man.
P: Never!
K:
Just as long as it is a non-communist government in Phnom Penh.
There was no problem about that.
P:
Packard came through nicely. Just think what a spot we would have
been in if we hadn't done the Cambodian thing.
K:
He is a good guy.
P:
What would have happened if we had allowed them to romp around
down there? We would be in a desperate position. Doesn't he
(Packard) believe that? He might not have thought it at the beginning.
Before we could not have, now we can afford to take it. Otherwise,
