TELCON
Mr. Kissinger
Mr. Sisco
9:15 a. m. , 7-4-70
K:
Joe, two things, Is that electronic equipment now on the
way? We were very strong with Defense.
S:
I am not sure, I will check on it.
K:
Why is that Arab reation to what the President said so strong?
What did he say that was so objectionable?
S:
In the mood and atmosphere there, anything that is said they
will react to. I will tell you what it was but I would not
let it bother you.
K:
It was entirely unrehearsed.
S:
The President made a strong statement in respect to the
Soviet action in it. I would not let it bother you at all. The
only one that said anything to us privately is the Prime
Minister of Lebanon, Karami(sp?) ). I would not let it perturb
you. I don't give a damn. We have been turning our cheek
SO long I think it is good. I would not get too much out about
it in the background.
K:
Who did that?
S:
Something in the press today.
K:
Who said this?
S:
Someone from the White House backgrounded this. It is all
coming
from California. The statement made the other night is not
considered balanced by the Arabs and I would just relax, They
are unhappy but they are not that unhappy.
K:
OK Joe, thank you.
S:
OK Henry.
K:
I will be in touch next week.
