Ambassador Dobrynin
7/10/70 3:18 p. m.
D: How are you after your late late night?
K: Covered with blasts
D: No, each hostess usually tells me wonderful stories about you.
They admire you. I don't know how you do it.
K: I've got to see your file on that some time. What I'm calling you
about is not terribly important. It's just that in the Washington Post there
have been a number of stories about what we are trying to do to you. We
have stopped saying anything after last week. You should ignore these
stories as far as we are concerned. We will get our impetuous subordinates
under control.
D: I think that would be better.
K: No question. These are not Whit e House stories. And a stop
will be put to them.
D: That will be better, especially now.
K: That is the way I feel about it and the way the President feeld about
it and he wanted me to tell you.
