P: Please give the President my best. I feel for him every day.
I was grateful for the invitation to the Diaz Ordaz dinner. I would have
accepted it but
I called him yesterday
Mrs. Johnson is in
Jackson Hole with [Larry ? ] Rockefeller at a meeting. It is just too
difficult to get her back and go to the dinner and then return to the meeting.
K: Can we send a plane for her?
P: I wouldn't want to ask that.
K: But I am offering it. When we met Diaz Ordaz he said that you
were the best friend in the Presidency he has had in the United States.
That's not a thoughtful thing to say when you are meeting with a President
and you are not talking about him.
P: Well, we certainly like him. It would be wonderful to see him. Let
me think about it. I don't want to ask.
K: You are not asking, I am offering. I would have to check it out with
the Military Aides office. But I think it could be done.
P: Jackson Hole is in Wyoming. K: Yes I know P: San Diego to Jackson Hole
K: Yes
P: You can have your staff talk with Tom Johnson in my office.
I don't
want to ask this though.
K; I will make it absolutely clear that I asked for it.
