K: I was thinking that the little group that came down, whether if
they could do one thing for me. I am probably going to replace my
staff man on the Middle East for obvious reasons, because he is too
much on that line. This is worrisome to me. I was wondering whether
you could all put your minds to gether and find someone in the academic
community or elsewhere. He could not be Jewish, and not identified
with liberal causes, but a tough minded fellow on this issue, and who
could be my assistant on the Middle East.
R: I will take care of that. We will send x you some suggestions.
Give me a deadline.
K: I would like to move this week.
R: I will try to get the group together tonight. I will do my best and
you will hear from me within a couple of days.
K: I tried to get David Landes but could not reach him. Can I count
on you? Oh, I got your letter.
R: Yes. One other thing. Are you aware of the fact that the Springers
are getting divorced?
K: Oh, God, no.
R: I had a note from George when I got back. Marge is marrying some-
body in New Mexico. I just thought you would like to know.
K: She is too old for this. But, who am I to talk.
R: She is marring someone who has been married for 35 years and is
getting divorced, and Marge and George have been married for 25 years.
K: God damn it! I will drop George a line.
R: On the other thing, you will hear from me.
