Telecon Secretary Rogers 12/23/70 2:45 p. , m. K: I thought your press conference came out extremely well -- I haven't read the transcript yet, but I read very extensive tickets and thought you handled it with subtlety and strength and without being bellicose. R: I hope the President likes it. K: If he doesn't like this, he's not easy to please. I'm just joking -- I know hell like this. R: We've gotten good reports from the press too. K: It was positive, not bellicose, but also not cringing. R: Thanks very much Henry. Are you getting time off for Christmas? K: Yes, and I'm going with my kids to the West coast and to work on the annual report. R: I hope you'11 enjoy it with your children. K: It's a good place to have them, close to Disneyland and all of those things. R: Well, Merry Christmas. K: Thank you and congratulations. 12/23/70 4:00 p. m. K: I went over to tell the President how well I thought of it and he had already called you. But I have had a chance to talk now and read more pas - sages. He was extremely pleased with it and he will probably call you himself. R: I wasn't asked specifically about Fulbright, but I told McCloskey to fill the press in on what happened. Actually Fulbright came out looking good. K: You said it was all a hoax and these people were acting in the national interest but it is clear a prudent man wouldn't have shot off his mouth. That was your best press conference if you don't mind my saying SO. R: The format is pretty good -- to have one subject at a time.
