Dean John Dunlap/Kissinger
10:07 a. m.
1/15/70
D: I am in Washington at the Labor Dept.
K: I tried to reach Pusey and you yesterday and then I war in transit to
Washington. I was on the W. Coast. Just trying to explain IN why I couldn't
call back.
D: I have a date on constructions problems here on Monday.
K: I wrote a letter to Pusey indicating I could not come back in February.
D: Persuant to our earlier conversation.
K: Yes, but I didn't say that.
D:
No
need. You WXXX wondered about the press side.
K: Here they said they would release a statement to that effect tomorrow
but primarily in the form of a letter to me by the President indicating his
pleasure that I am staying without comment on the Harvard situation. Any
problem?
D: I will get on the phone to Nate but I see no reason why not.
K: I will not release the letter to you. You can but it's not appropriate for me.
D: It will have to go through the corporation.
K: I don't plan to g meet with the press at all. Just be informed I am staying
on. And pleased about it. If you think it desirable I could sit in on the press
and indicate the close feeling I have for Harvard to put at ease any
considerations of Harvard.
D: My preference as an individual is to have you do that because there has
been some misunderstanding but I will not say you ought to.
K: I will do it unless you think it inappropriate.
D: No and I prefer you do it.
K: I will not want to be there when they release the letter but I will step in and
say there are many news stories in relations to my feelings on Harvard. I will
say I have warm feelings.
D: You danktxx wouldn't say anything about the vote of our government colleague:
