L: I have been working here and Tom working on a piece of paper on a PR policy
thing.
K: Right.
L: I think it's important that we bring the SVN into the forefront here as much as
possible. Nothing goes as far as units are concerned until Fri. or Sat. and it
may be bad weather or a bad
.
We want it to be that SVN are occupying
area. I don't think Southerland XX should be at meeting when they
initiate. I understand you are going to talk about this this afternoon.
K: I will look at it carefully. Haldeman wslo at the meetings.
L: We have these contacts if they want to have Ron or Dan in charge fine, but
one person should be in charge. Even in our briefings it's important to have one
person briefing the whole operation xxxxxxxxxxx because he won't know how far
we will go and it will look like we have failed.
K: Stennis received the whole operation. Ford was given a rougher idea and
Albert this morning, the same.
L: I visited with Gerry and his understanding is all right. He wasn't carried too
far but he has the idea about the airlift. But he has left town.
K: I told Gerry there might be one.
L: He won't talk about it. He does seem to have the understanding there will
be one. kfx As far as Mansfield, Bill didn't go that far.
K: Nor with Albert. We siad there might be but not that there would be.
L: If it has been Thurs. or Friday of this week we to wouldn't have been able to get
in because of weaterh. On the Prairie Fire teams for the next 6 weeks I have
taken Americans off. One might get shot and you can't tell he warn't in there
with troops and SO many SVN there that they don't need Americans with them.
They can handle it OK and it will be better.
K: What area does that involve?
L: Along the Laotian border. That's where they weregoing into Base 7 and 604.
K: That's a good idea.
L: We might get caught up in something and these have been green berets and
it's hard to say they are not a combat soldier. We will be pxxxxxxxx protected.
