TELECON Mr. Kissinger/Ambassador Ortona 9:55 a. m. , February 19, 1971 K: Mr. Ambassador, I don't know whether it was necessary to call you about this. I saw in the Washington Post social column today a remark attributed to me a joking remark. I hope it doesn't cause you any concern. O: The consonant remark or the Foreign Office remark? K: The Foreign Office. O: We feel very flattered. K: Somebody came up and said Colombo and the Foreign Minister are dull people. I said they are no such thing. I said on the contrary, no Italian is dull -- it's one Foreign Office where they prefer to talk about other things and not just business. O: It was very well taken. It was/ very kind of you to call. What about tomorrow morning? What is the scenario of the visit? K: It will be about a half hour. You tell me what you want. We will make sure some photographers are outside. O: I wonder if Mr. Moro might be included; he is number 2 in the party. K: I will do my best. O: He is the Minister of Foreign Affairs. K: I find him a fascinating man. I would not want to engage him in a contest of political maneuver. O: But not all of the delegation. K: The Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, and the Ambassadors. We will get a picture taken. I will see you tonight at your reception. O: We will talk only in consonants. K: You liked that remark? O: Yes. lds
