I am going ahead on this cable that really\nneed in order to meet what we may very well be confronted with on Monday.\nXXXXIX It tells no one to do anything.\nK: Did you talk to Rabin today?\nS: Yes.\nK: What did he say?\nS: Told him I was calling on behalf of the Secretary and that we hoped they\nwould reconsider their reply and I hoped he would transmit this to Tel Aviv.\nHe said thank you Joe. I will do it but do not expect any change. XXX The\natmosphere was very good.\nK:\nwhat we are crunching for\nS: Henry. Let me tell you something. You really ought to look at the\npapers we are coughing up to you. The question you raised today about\nwhat on the Jordanian side could we do.\nK: I know what the papers say. I know it but the President did not know it.\nS: I thought your contribution was very good and I thought that the meeting\nwent very well. Everyone was able to get what they thought in. The\nSecretary did not want to bulldoze the President. He just wanted to go over\neverything step by step so that he would have a complete understanding.\nThe poor guy, I know he has a lot of things on his mind.\nK: I am not sure he understood the Jordanian stand or the situation and\nby\npretending that it is going to be easier next time.\nsecure frontiers and\n'67 frontiers. I don't know if he knew the difference between them.\nS: Not a hell of a lot. Another thing. Nobody advised that the President\nget involved himself at this stage. We have a series of problems coming up\nwith Israel. It is the beginning of the rocky road."
