What I -- I don't want you to correct anything but I am saddened\nwhen I see someone of your moral stature make a point -- 65-45 and you\nwill stick with it 100%. The thing I was trying to say that makes this present\nsituation so sad in this country -- if you put Harriman and me in the same room\nthe difference between us is 10% but when they speak it has to come out -- any\ndecision is 100%. You can reverse it but the fact that it's done\nand\nthoughtfully, a comment pro or con doesn't ? ? ? . That's the point I was\ntrying to make.\nR: You didn't make it.\nK: But not what you are making either. The fact that we are stuck with it.\nI am not complaining but things are being done that must be debated.\nR: But they are not being debated. We are being tricked. There's not an\nhonest debate between you and the critics on your policy. Not at all.\nK: It's not true. The one thing I am not doing is & testifying before Congress.\nNo one has met with more college groups or outside groups than I have. You\nhave violent disagreements with what's being done and that's sad enough.\nR: I don't disagree with that but I am talking about the central question here.\ntown\nThis\nXXIXE is riddled with mistrust. It wasn't worse even during the Johnson\ntime. I believed for awhire but I don't any more.\nK: That your entitled to do. We will have to see how it looks after awhile.\nR: The decision of this government going across an international border\nwithout the President saying a word. The President seeing only those who\nsupport his position and not others. It's shoddy.\nK: I am not here to argue the public relations policy. I think the systematic\nattack on the credibility is not the most elevating but I see no point in our\nthrowing things back and forth now. It's barely conceivable that there are\nserious people on both sides.\nR: I think there are.\nK: It's also conceivable that we have the same objectives. The assumption\nof virtue on one side --\nR: I don't think -- there's that element and there always has been."
