M: The President said yesterday he was going to call me at
about 1:00. I've been waiting
K: They asked me to return your call. Anything particular?
M: Yes.
K: About the truck figures?
M: Also to contack Abrams and get a foundup before the press
conference. Right afterward I called Abrams and told him I wanted
the information this morning and to send Weyand up to One. Abrams
said that today is the best day of the operations so far. The morale
is high -- the scheduled contacts went off without a hitch. The best
information comes by calling him in the morning because that's
night for him. Lam is in good shape
tough, dermined, careful,
spirits good

Thieu is involved personally in this operation
intently interested.
While they do have some tough fighting ahead, 'we are going to make
it and accomplish what we set out to do. I

K: They are the best division
M: Chup operation going well
ARVN is pausing for two or
three days to reorganize. The enemy has taken severe losses. You
will see in the regular report that B-52s have killed well over 100.
General Minh and his troops have weathered a trying week
great tenacity
determination and skill
commander whose credentials are in
excellent order.
K: Excellent.
M: Details will be in the regular 2:00 report.
K: I will get that to the President immediately and tell him you called,
but I've given him the gist and told him you wiki are all very confident.
M: The encouraging thing is that they have done all their medevac,
men are in place, moving forward.
K: Okay, we're calm here now. You worry about your nervous people
there. We are not going to use any of these truck hills?
M: That can get un in trouble. In 914B that regiment is scurrying
around
