K: I am told by Sonnenfeldt your people will not show us the paper you submitted
to the President. That can't be XX right.
P: I can't believe that. What subject?
K: At 4:15 you and I were to meet with the President. They think it's on grains.
P: We have nothing on that. I have a paper on cheeses.
K: If you showed me a paper on cheese, I wouldn't talk with you.
P: There are 3 items I think --one, cheeses, is almost all political with
Mills and the dairy lobby. It's a lousy economic case and I am appeal to
the tariff
on that. Perhaps Sonnenfeldt is talking about that. I am
going to say we have these wrinkles and we are talking with State, Agriculture,
and
.
If you wznt to see that, you can.
K: He wouldn't want me in on that.
P: Shoes. My friend Stans is in on that. $55 million . Itlay and Spain are
climbing the wall. Stans is talking all over town. I want to ask where he wants
me to head. The choices are for a two week study. What we should know is that
Peter and Stans have let the work go to the bureaucrats ? ?
?
?
?
?
?
.
K: Just say what you want. Don't criticize Stans or Flanigan. Above all,
Flanigan.
P: Stans is talking to foreign ambassadors onthat. I will say we will try
to defuse these questions and isn't that what you want? East-West trede we
are together on this. Henry tells me when we can go. When he does, we will
know it's millions and billions. There's business pressure on this. Currency
convertible problem and they want to barter.
K: Right.
P: UK trade. We have agriculture telling them to stop and State saying
continue. You and I agree we cannot put him and the govt. in this. We are
going for two weeks. It makes no difference for the long term. Ariculture
will get hurt when we go into the Common Market. Industrial products will
be helped.
K: Use Britain to help us.
P: With political
K; We are completely together.
P: Find out what Sonnenfeldt wants.
K: I don't care. I have what I want.
