R: I notice that Hubert Humphrey is trying to reach the President on the
Middle East. Has he made any progress?
K: Not that I know of, and that would go through me.
R: Has he called?
K: I'm not sure. I 11 check.
R: It's important to keep tabs on this.
K: If the President knows what it's about it will come through me. I'11
put a hold on it and make sure it doesn't go through till I talk with you. Do
you want me to check. What usually happens is that I take the call and then
pass any request on klxex to the President. I'll call you as soon as the request
comes in and I'11 check right now and see whether it has happened.
