Walt Rostow/Mr. Kissinger 12:01 p.m., April 19, 1971 - 2 - R: As long as your boss sees it lucidly that we must appeal to the sense of responsibility of the nation. The sense of responsibility is still there despite the misleading polls. There is a terrific irresponsibility in the media. K: The inhumanity of the bombing the fact that has gone down is never mentioned. Now it has become an absolute article of faith that Americans invaded Laos and Cambodia. The fact that others were there to begin with was never mentioned. But you went through it for eight years. R: You got my note about Bill Jordan? K: Yes; I will do my damndest to make it possible. R: He is absolutely on the Johnson/Nixon policy; he has a deep knowledge of Asia; and he has done a most remarkable job here. He has a deep sense of public service. If you have a place for a guy like that, you would be lucky to have him. K: I will do my damndest to make it possible, and I think I can make it possible. R: Thank you. K: Right. Good-bye. lds
