TELCON Mr. Kissinger/Secretary Laird 9:20 p.m., April 19, 1971 K: You asked me to call you earlier. L: No, I was returning your call. I had a note that you called this morning. I was at the International Red Cross thing and when I returned I had a note that you had called. K: Be damned, I forgot what I called about. L: I am just returning your call, no problems? K: It must have been something minor. L: That was a lousy article in Time Magazine. Somebody planted that damned thing. K: Who would have an interest in doing that? L: That business about how about that "yes, but" but a "yes, sir". I don't know who could have done that. K: Mel, you can be sure of one thing, nobody in this office would do such a thing. L: I know that -- no, no, I know that Henry. I just don't think the damned thing helps anybody. K: Let me have a talk with Haldeman about it and see if we can put a stop to it. L: Somebody has to stop it. I have been trying to support as much as I possibly can. K: Mel, you have been a patriot and a loyal supporter. L: I understand that. K: That was one by petty people, I know that it is not the President's view. L: People just trying to plant that kind of thing but that's not why I called, I just returned your call. K: Think that was still from Saturday -- I left a messag on Saturday. L: If you think about it, give me a call, I am at home.
