J: I have to get something off on Okinawa for the Secretary's talk with Aichi.
K: I have stopped that.
J: It's no reason why the Secy. can't sign on this June 17?
K: You have a disaffected Secy. -at-Large and I have a furious economics asst. here.
J: I think it's going well. I had Byrd here who has been a problem and he thinks
the two should be kept separate.
K: We will not raise the islands.
J: Peterson called me last night and raised them again.
K: He was ordered by the President to shut up.
J: I said from textile issues how did he expect to get anything from
the Japanese. He hadn't thought about it. He thought we would have to go the military
equipment route.
K: He has been told we don't do that.
J: He said rather than the Senkakos. I just wanted to let you know.
K: damn it!
