K: He is good and he's our man.
L: You bet he is.
K: Another good one is Nitze.
L: Yes but he should stay with the SALT thing. Smith needs Paul. Some of
the lower guys are leaking about the two side Safeguard plan. That shouldn't
get out on the Hill.
K: Jesus no.
L: I think guys like Rush and Farland shouldn't be overlooked.
K: Farland the President could be sold on. Rush I would like if we can get
Berlin moving.
L: Rush is great. Even Bob Hill is strong.
K: But he doesn't want it. He wants to leave Spain for personal reasons.
L: I know it.
K: What do you think of Rumsfeld?
L: I like him. I think he is a hell of a good guy. We'd have to work with him;
he hasn't been around the Hill. But I think he could do it.. He's a fine guy. He
wants to go; wants to do something else. I don't know what the problem is but he
wants to do something else.
K: I want to go too but does anyone care about that?
L: You can't go now.
K: I am joking; you and I will go toggther.
L:I think in these jobs it's better to get new people in after three or four years.
K: One thing, the President wants to turn off the Taiwan visit.
L: How can we do that? State has made all the arrangements.
K: Shall we do it for you?
