TELECON
The President
7/15/71 1:25 p.m. p. 2
P: Just say they are going to be invited and I would like a private
talk with him in total confidence. Say this is not in the interest of
politics, but in the nation's interest, and all that yek, yak. You know
Mike loves the Chinese.
K: What can they say. What did we not consult them on? You put
it in your foreign policy reports, in your speech. The only thing you
didn't consult them on was tactics.
P: The thing about China which I wrote myself is really a damn
good prophetic thing.
K: Abobdutely. I will call it to their attention.
P: And that was in '67, before I was a candidate, after my world
tour.
K: That's right.
P: All right. Go back to Henry, and tell him we were discussing
the bombing of Hanoi.
