B: Will they announce Monday?
K: Probably. It's the sort of thing that will kepp experts hopping for 48 hours
and next week I will not be able to explain it to you. They agreed to ties between
W. Berlin and the Sovereign Republic. Now they want relations. That XXXXXX
sounds like two soveriegn states. That's what we worked on two months ago.
They are sneaking back in words. Third level experts working on it. By Monday
it will be history.
B: The main point is 17 months working on this and successful and not much
about it.
K: It's important to write about.
B: It's a column I can write that's favorable and I want to do that.
K: That would be appreciated. Would you ask Joan to call?
B: I will.
K: How's Stuart?
B: Going back for treatment after Labor Day.
K: He was going back for results when I talked with him. I guess it wasn't
successful. I called him the day hewas going to get some results. He was in
good shape and blood count level and that was unexpected.
B: I am not sure news of hospital is bad. It means they have found a treatment.
At least for awhile. It doesn't sound good but I will inow more when I see him.
K: He willbreak our hearts.
B: Is Rush a State Dept. hand?
K: Our appointment. Was head of IBM
no, Union Carbide.
B: Damn good?
K: Fantastic job and very responsive to the President. Ouststanding.
B: Appointed by Nixon to conduct negotiations?
K: No to be Ambassador in Bonn bjt in that capapcity he conducted the nego-
tiations.
