K: Want it slipped? J: 15 minutes. K: I will move it to 4:00. I have re-opened the John Getz issue. I think there's some prospects. J: Good. K: How eager are you? You have submitted another name for kxx the other issue. NATO one. Nx J: We want to go through with that. K: You have submitted Stoeesel. J: We want to go through with that. We have accepted turn down on Doug. K: No sense in using prestige. We will work on Stoessel. We will also work on Farcas (?) one. I have noted that these people are working up their semi- annual campaign against me. Tom Braden had a column on press reaction. Story in the Wall Street Journal saying the Germans are outraged that I am dealing with ministers directly through phone calls. On Friday and XXXXXXNXX making a minister come over to report to me withouth going throught the Embassy. J: Washington story? K: We called the Wall Street Journal and the German embassy had protested. They said it was from unimpeachable State Dept. sources. Now there's a story that "Japanese feel Henry Kissinger is to blame on the cavalier manner in which they have been handled. ? ? ? ? ? ? ". We have checked and they got that from State. It's a crazy way of proceeding and some from my people will start up. They never have but -- J: I will run it down. K: It's gratuitous. J: I'ts not true, period. K: I don't know about the Japanese part. On that you and I have worked closely together.
